Nuse Penida

Nuse Penida, Bali, Indonesia

Nusa Penida is an island off the east coast of Bali. Imagine crystal-clear waters like the Caribbean without the overcrowded resorts.

It has grown in popularity over the last few years with its crystal-clear beaches and drastic cliffs that make this island picturesque from every angle. There are a variety of resorts and villas at low cost, but without my own transport, I chose to take a day trip.  With the help of GetYourGuide, I booked a hotel pickup/drop-off and tour guide for the island. The entire day was 13 hours, due to traffic in Bali, but the tour took about 9 hours. If you’re solo traveling or just want an easy quick trip to Nusa Penida, this is the tour for you.

At only $55 USD and hotel drop off and pick up, it’s a bargain for what you get!

Pick-up in Canngu was at 6 a.m. sharp. My driver, Awid, was on time, and I was one of 4 people headed to NP for the day. Ferry departure from Sanur was at 8 a.m. when we had enough time to grab some coffee before boarding. If you are staying in Sanur, you can meet at the port which is a cheaper option, and coffee is included. The 4 travelers and our driver arrive at NP at 9:15 with a clean air con car waiting for us on the other side.

Our first stop was Kelinking Beach for “the picture.”. If you know anything about Nusa Penida, yes that’s the picture. Our driver, Awid stood in line for us so we could take in the views and watch the monkeys grab for unattended bags (some were successful!).

Awid took all our pictures one at a time with multiple angles, shouting clear instructions on how to pose, because Bali drivers are the true heroes behind social media

The next stop was Angel Billabong and Broken Beach. This was easily a 30-minute drive and a fairly treacherous one. The road leading up to it is privately owned and not well taken care of. On arrival, this was obviously another photo opportunity. Again Awid worked the absolute hardest and patiently took all our pictures. I didn’t love this stop. It was very crowded with tour groups.

The last stop of the day was Crystal Bay Beach, which was my favorite. We had a little over an hour there, but honestly, I would have given up the second stop to spend a little more time here. The water was beautiful and very refreshing. We were also given a complimentary drink here, as it was included in our ticket price. Once we were dried off and cooled down from the swim, we headed back to the ferry. I arrived back at my villa around 7:00 pm. It was a long day, but it was a quick way to see a little bit of an island. I highly recommend it for your next trip to Bali!
