A List of the Most Essential Travel Items from a Travel Advisor

In this blog, you can find a travel advisor’s list of the most essential travel items. AirTag- Not only for your luggage! I kept this on my person while traveling, and it was linked to my mom’s phone to give her peace of mind while I was exploring countries solo. There is more than one way to use these! The battery is good, I’ve had it for a year, and the battery is still in good shape.

Kindle Paperwhite: I link this to my Libby App and have free books when I travel that take up less space! If you haven’t downloaded the Libby app for travel, do this now! You will need to go to your public library and sign up for a card to enter the barcode into the app. There are digital books and audio available. You can loan for two weeks before they are automatically sent back to your library. PRO Tip: I’m a slow reader, so I will send the book to my Kindle, then turn my Kindle on airplane mode and have the book as long as I need it 🙂

This was the bag I used: it withheld the constant moves and my full body weight while sitting to close the zipper without it breaking. In all honesty, I should have brought something bigger (remember, I traveled for just shy of a year). I was set on bringing a carry-on only, but when you are on a budget and booking puddle hopper flights, it had to be checked anyway. I would say this would be the perfect size for 6 weeks to 3 months in only one climate.

If you’re going for a short trip, staying in one place, or not trekking through the cobblestone streets of Europe, break for a carry-on roller. How cute is this trio? I highly recommend a hard-shell case to make sure your things are safe and secure. Remember that AirTag? Be sure to throw it in here if you must check your luggage.

A microfiber towel: small enough for travel, you’ll be glad you have one for that day trip to that waterfall in Malaysia. I also have these for my face. It’s nice to not rely on a hotel for a towel just when you need one. Besides, microfiber is less rough on your skin.

Reusable water bottle: Most European tourist cities have fountains with drinkable water in the city center, so take advantage of B.Y.O. bottles! This is the one I had for 6 months of my trip, and I loved how cold my water stayed. I don’t even want to mention the emotional rollercoaster I had when I realized I left it in a shuttle van in Thailand. Travel the planet and save the planet.

Packing Cubes/ Vacuum seal bags: I’ve used both. I’ve found that I actually like vacuum-sealed bags better; however, there is a strategy to packing that can’t be done in a rush if you don’t want your clothes to end up wrinkled at your destination.

External hard drive: for all my pictures: This is so important! I upload my pictures from the ‘cloud’ and load them onto the external hard drive to save memory on my laptop. Be sure to back your pictures up. You’ll thank yourself if something happens to your phone.

Reusable bags: When traveling, you can’t have enough. A lot of places are charging for plastic bags. I have a grocery canvas bag and a packable day backpack.

This backpack folds up and hooks to my suitcase. It’s perfect for a day of exploring! It clips and wraps at the top, so you don’t have to worry about trying to open your bag!

A travel first AID kit: These are small enough that you will love that you have them if you absolutely need them! If you need more medical attention, make sure you are covered by travel medical insurance. I used Nomad Insurance by SafetyWing. It’s medical coverage created by nomads for a nomadic lifestyle.

My GO-TO while I long-term traveled was this reusable coffee filter. I used this almost daily to avoid paying for caffeine every single day. I’m a coffee snob so having a good cup of coffee every day is vital to my existence (is that extreme? Maybe)

My #1 tip!
Don’t forget to make copies of your passport, other identification cards, and bank information.
Keep all this in a safe in your hotel or in a folder in your bag. If something happens, you won’t be stranded.
